TECH PARK ACADEMY | Zoning Out: How to Invest in Opportunity Zones
Come hear about a new investment tool that can help companies looking for outside funding and investors looking to stretch their dollar at the next Tech Park Academy, September 12th. Registration starts at 11:30, and the program starts at noon.
Opportunity Zones were established by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 as a community development program to encourage long-term investments in low-income urban and rural communities. The Law created tax incentives for re-investment of capital gains into dedicated Opportunity Funds that spur development by investing in businesses and properties located in an Opportunity Zone. Stone Pigman attorney, Dan Walter, and LED’s State Economic Competitiveness Executive Director, James Chappell, will explain the program, answer questions, and share details regarding how interested parties can find investment opportunities by searching the state’s new Opportunity Zone web portal.
The Opportunity Zone investments are not limited to a cap or a pool of money and may be combined with other state incentives. The program is not limited to professional investors or tax credit experts. It also allows for several different types of investments from equity in a startup business to more traditional real estate development investments.
