TECH PARK ACADEMY: A.I. and the Criminal Justice System
Decision making is a fundamental element of the criminal justice system. From judges that decide bond amounts and conditions of release, to juries that listen to evidence and render verdicts based on judging the credibility of witnesses and weight of evidence, human decision making has historically been a necessary part of the daily operations of our court systems. Despite this, there is a growing interest in utilizing Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) in the decision-making process of the criminal justice system. A.I. can address concerns and complaints about balance, fairness, and bias, taking away the emotion and political pressure in that humans often experience in decision making. Is this a good thing?
Attorney Franz N. Borghardt from the Borghardt Law Firm will lead a discussion about decision making in the criminal justice system and the implications of utilizing artificial intelligence.
