Luncheon Seminar: Digital Interactive Media Tax Credits
11:30 AM-01:00 PM
Recent state legislation can potentially benefit many of our LTP members and associates by providing substantial tax credits for design and development of digital interactive media (DIM). The definition of DIM has been significantly expanded with this legislation to include many types of technology, online, and software applications. The tax credit is up to 35% of a company’s development expenses, including hardware. These transferrable credits can provide a serious boost to a company’s cash flow by reducing the company’s tax burden, or providing an asset that can be monetized in the secondary market for as much as $0.90 on the dollar.

Please join us on August 26th, 2009 as attorneys Erich Rapp and Phyllis Sims from Kean Miller explain the new legislation, help you determine if you qualify for the tax credits, explain how to work through the tax credit process, and answer any questions. They will also talk about formation of a new group, the Louisiana Internet Software & Technology Association (LISTA), a trade association seeking to promote a more friendly business environment in Louisiana for businesses engaged in software, web site platform, and web application development and design.

Kean Miller will be providing lunch for this seminar, so please RSVP to Genevieve by 8/21/09. Registration is limited to the first 30 people.

Luncheon Seminar: New Market Tax Credits and other Capital Incentives
12:00 PM-01:00 PM
The recent legislative session has brought about many changes to the array of capital incentives offered to small businesses in Louisiana. The angel investor tax credit was not renewed, and will now sunset at the end of the year. Efforts to bring back incentives for venture capital investment were not successful. However, other programs such as the film and digital interactive media tax credits were expanded. So what capital incentive programs are still available for our early-stage technology companies? Scott Kirkpatrick, head of the Louisiana Coalition for Capital, will discuss the recent changes, what programs are still in effect, and what efforts are brewing for new change in our capital landscape. In addition, Robert Lay of Stonehenge Capital will discuss New Market Tax Credits, which are still available in our area. The Tech Park is located in a New Market Tax Credits Zone, so some of our tenants may qualify to secure capital at heavily reduced rates under this program. Mr. Lay will describe the program, who may qualify, and the application process.
The Tech Park will provide lunch for this program, and the cost is free. Registration is limited to the first 30 people.
